Advertising disclosure
Readers should know who pays for what they read. This page sets out how Zandrel is funded and how we treat commercial relationships.
1. How Zandrel is funded
Zandrel is funded by its owners, who cover editorial and hosting costs. The publication is not owned by, and does not receive payment from, any pharmaceutical company, supplement maker, clinic, hospital group, insurer or food and beverage brand.
The costs the owners cover fall into a few plain categories: web hosting and the domain name, the fees paid to freelance writers and to the clinicians and dietitians who review articles, licences or commissions for photographs, accounting and legal advice, and the time of the small editorial team. Contributors are paid a flat fee that is agreed before an article is commissioned, and that fee does not depend on what the article concludes or on how many people read it. Reviewers are paid the same fee whether they approve a draft or ask for substantial changes.
Zandrel has no outside investors, no loans from commercial parties and no grants from companies in the health, food or insurance sectors. We do not currently accept reader donations or run a membership scheme, so no individual or organisation is able to pay for a say in what is published. If an owner, editor or regular contributor ever holds a financial interest in a company that a story touches on, that interest will be stated on the editorial team page, and the person concerned will not edit or review the relevant piece.
2. What the site carries today
- No display advertising or banners.
- No sponsored articles or paid placements.
- No affiliate links or commissions on any product or service.
- No product sales and no paid consultations.
- No testimonials, reviews or ratings of clinics or practitioners.
The list above is a statement of current practice, and several edge cases are worth spelling out so that the meaning is clear:
- Gifts and hospitality. Staff and contributors do not accept free products, trips, event invitations or other benefits from companies or clinics that appear in, or could be affected by, our coverage. Anything unsolicited that arrives at our office in Kebayoran Baru is returned or donated, and the matter is noted in the editorial log.
- Images. Photographs are commissioned or licensed by Zandrel. We do not accept images supplied by a manufacturer, clinic or agency in exchange for coverage, and pictures are chosen to illustrate a topic rather than to display a brand.
- Our own products. Zandrel does not sell books, courses, programmes, devices or any other goods, and it does not offer paid consultations or coaching. Where an article suggests speaking to a professional, we link only to public information and professional bodies, not to a business.
- Reader data. We do not sell personal data, share it for advertising or use messages sent through the contact form to build audiences. Details are in the privacy policy.
- Embedded content. The site does not embed third-party advertising scripts, social media widgets or tracking pixels. The only external request made by a page is for typefaces, as described in the cookie policy.
3. Independence of articles
Articles are chosen, written, reviewed and published without input from any commercial party. When we mention a category of product or treatment, we do so to explain what research shows, including limits and risks. We do not name brands in order to recommend them. See the editorial policy for how we handle conflicts of interest.
In practice, the topics of articles are decided at editorial meetings based on reader questions, published research and public health guidance in Indonesia. Writers do not discuss commissions with company representatives, and no company is told in advance what an article will say. When an article touches on a category such as home blood-pressure monitors or routine laboratory tests, the text describes what the tool or test measures, who may find it relevant, and its limits, and it points readers to a health professional for individual decisions.
Companies, clinics and organisations are free to write to us with factual corrections or additional public information. Such messages are handled in the same way as any reader's message: they are read by an editor, checked against independent sources, and acted on only if the correction is supported. Receiving a message never leads to the addition of a link, a mention or a favourable description. When an article is corrected for a factual reason, we add a dated note at the foot of the article that explains what changed.
4. If this changes
Should Zandrel introduce advertising or sponsorship in future, we will apply the following rules and update this page before anything goes live:
- Every paid item will be clearly labelled as advertising or sponsored content and visually separate from articles.
- Advertisers will have no influence over editorial content, timing or removal of articles.
- We will not accept advertising for prescription medicines, products making disease-treatment or cure claims, unregistered products, tobacco, vaping products, gambling or weight-loss promises.
- Advertising for health products will be accepted only where the product has valid BPOM registration and the claims are consistent with it.
- Advertising will not use data from messages sent through the contact form.
- We will disclose any advertising technology and cookies in the cookie policy and ask for consent where required.
The six rules above would be supported by the following additional commitments, and each would be checked before any commercial arrangement is signed:
- Advance notice. The change would be announced on this page, with the date it takes effect, at least 30 days before any advertising or sponsorship is published. The notice would also appear in the revision history below.
- Labelling. Paid items would carry a visible label in both English and Bahasa Indonesia, such as “Advertisement” or “Iklan” and “Sponsored content” or “Konten bersponsor”, placed before the item and not hidden in small print.
- Applicable standards. Advertising would follow Indonesian law and industry codes, including the Consumer Protection Law (Law No. 8 of 1999), the Health Law (Law No. 17 of 2023), rules issued by BPOM on advertising of food and health products, and the Indonesian Advertising Code of Ethics (Etika Pariwara Indonesia).
- Review before publication. The editor-in-chief would check every advertiser and every claim against the rules in this section. An item that does not meet them would be declined, and a record of declined items would be kept for 24 months.
- Reader data. No advertiser would receive personal data about readers. Any advertising technology that stores or reads information on your device would be listed in the cookie policy before use and would require your consent where the law demands it.
The revision history of this page is kept below, with the most recent change first.
| Date | Change |
|---|---|
| 1 October 2026 | Expanded the funding description, the edge cases for gifts, images and embedded content, the commitments that would apply to any future advertising, and the complaints procedure. |
| 1 September 2026 | Added the rule that health product advertising would require valid BPOM registration. |
| 15 June 2026 | First version of the disclosure published with the website. |
5. Links to other sites
Links to government agencies, professional societies and other organisations are included only because we consider them useful to readers. They are not paid placements.
We do not accept payment, goods or reciprocal links in exchange for linking to another site, and we do not use affiliate or tracking parameters in outbound links. Typical destinations include the Ministry of Health, BPOM, professional societies and universities, chosen because they publish information that readers can verify. The list is reviewed at least every six months, and links that stop working or change in character are corrected or removed. A link to an organisation is not an endorsement of everything on its site, and Zandrel is not responsible for content it does not control.
6. Reporting a concern
If you see something on the site that looks like undisclosed advertising, or you believe a statement is promotional, please tell us through the contact form or by email to [email protected]. We will review it and respond within five working days.
When you report a concern, it is logged with the date and the page concerned and is assigned to an editor who did not write the article in question. The editor checks whether any payment, gift or commercial relationship exists, whether the wording is promotional, and whether a label or correction is needed. Depending on the finding, we may rewrite the passage, add a disclosure note, correct a factual point or remove the content. We will tell you what was found and what was done, and we aim to send that final outcome within 15 working days of your first message. If the review needs longer, we will tell you before that date and give a new one.
If you remain unsatisfied, you can ask in writing for the editor-in-chief to review the decision. You may also contact the Indonesian National Consumer Protection Agency (BPKN), the Indonesian Consumers Foundation (YLKI) or the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi). For postal correspondence, write to Zandrel, Jalan Bunga Raya No. 25, Kebayoran Baru, Jakarta Selatan, DKI Jakarta 12160, Indonesia, or telephone +62 813 6745 2918 during office hours, Monday to Friday. Reports can be made in English or Bahasa Indonesia, and we do not require you to give your name if your concern is about content rather than about your own data.
