Cookie policy
A plain description of what the Zandrel website stores in your browser, and how to change your choice.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website can save on your device. Similar technologies, such as local storage in the browser, serve a comparable purpose. They can keep the site working, remember your choices and, on some sites, measure how pages are used.
Cookies are usually described by who sets them and how long they last. A first-party cookie is set by the website you are visiting, while a third-party cookie is set by a different domain whose content is embedded in the page. A session cookie disappears when you close the browser, whereas a persistent cookie stays until its expiry date or until you delete it. Local storage differs technically from a cookie because its contents are not sent to the server with every request, but it stays on your device in a similar way, which is why it is covered here. In this policy, “browser storage” means cookies, local storage, session storage and comparable technologies taken together.
The following four categories are used throughout this policy to describe what a storage item is for:
- Strictly necessary. Items needed to deliver a page you asked for, for example to keep a connection secure or to balance traffic between servers. These generally do not require consent.
- Preference. Items that remember a choice you made, such as your answer to the cookie notice on this site.
- Measurement. Items used to count visits or study how pages are read. Zandrel does not use any of these at present.
- Advertising. Items used to show, target or measure ads. Zandrel does not use any, which is consistent with the advertising disclosure.
This policy applies to the website at www.zandrel.id and to every page published under that address. It does not apply to external websites that we link to, such as government agencies or professional societies, because those sites set their own cookies under their own policies. If you follow a link to such a site, please read the cookie information it provides.
The topic matters more on a health publication than on many other sites. Readers may look up subjects that are personal, such as sleep, stress or hormone health, and they may reasonably not want a record of their reading to be kept or passed on. That is one of the main reasons the site keeps browser storage to a minimum: nothing here records which articles you read, how often you return or what you searched for. The sections below set out exactly what is stored, so that you can check the statement against what your own browser shows.
2. What Zandrel uses today
We keep our use of browser storage deliberately small. As of the date above, the site uses only the item listed below. It does not set advertising cookies, does not use third-party tracking pixels and does not create user profiles.
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| zandrel-cookie-consent | Local storage, first party | Remembers whether you chose “Accept cookies” or “Essential only”, so the notice is not shown on every page | Until you clear your browser data |
Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts. When your browser requests them, Google may receive technical information such as your IP address, as described in Google's own privacy documentation.
The item in the table is written by our own pages, not by a third party. It holds a short value that records which of the two notice buttons you pressed. It does not contain your name, email address, IP address or any identifier that could single you out, and it is never combined with other data. Because it records only a presentation choice, we treat it as a preference item. It is created when you press a button on the notice and is read each time a page loads so that the notice can stay hidden.
The table below shows every category from section 1 and its current status on the site, so that nothing is left to inference.
| Category | Status | Set by | Typical lifespan |
|---|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary cookies | None set by our pages | Not applicable | Not applicable |
| Preference storage | One item in use (zandrel-cookie-consent) | Zandrel, first party | Until you clear your browser data |
| Measurement or analytics | Not used | Not applicable | Not applicable |
| Advertising and retargeting | Not used | Not applicable | Not applicable |
| Social media plug-ins and embedded video | Not used | Not applicable | Not applicable |
Three further points explain how this fits with Indonesian data protection rules and with the technical way the site is delivered:
- Legal basis. Law No. 27 of 2022 on Personal Data Protection (UU PDP) recognises consent and other lawful bases for handling personal data. The preference item holds no personal data, so it does not depend on consent to function. We still show the notice so that you can see and control what is stored, and we record your answer only on your own device.
- Server logs. Separately from cookies, the web servers that deliver the site record technical details of each request, such as IP address, browser type, page requested and time. These logs are used to keep the site secure and working and are kept for 90 days, as set out in the privacy policy.
- Third-party requests. The only external service called when a page loads is Google Fonts, which supplies the typefaces. Your browser contacts Google's font servers directly, and Google receives the IP address, browser details and the address of the page that requested the font. According to Google's published documentation, these requests are not used to set cookies in your browser, but the request itself is still a transfer of technical data to a third party.
Google's servers may be located outside Indonesia, so loading the fonts can involve a transfer of technical data across borders. Where Indonesian law requires safeguards for such transfers, we rely on the provider's published commitments and on choosing services that document how they protect the data they receive. If you prefer that no request is sent to Google, you can block font requests in your browser or use a content blocker. The site will then display in a standard system typeface, and all text and links will continue to work.
The site is hosted by Amazon Web Services in its Asia Pacific (Jakarta) region. The hosting provider delivers the pages and keeps the server logs described above. Our pages do not ask the provider to set cookies, and we do not use content delivery or security features that add tracking cookies. If a hosting feature were ever to set a cookie, we would list it in the tables above before enabling it.
You can check what a site stores without relying on our description. In most desktop browsers, open the developer tools, find the section called Application or Storage, and look under Cookies and Local Storage for www.zandrel.id. You should see one local storage entry named zandrel-cookie-consent after you have answered the notice, and no cookies. If you see something else, it may come from a browser extension on your device, and we would like to hear about it through the contact page.
3. If this changes
If we add tools that measure readership or set other cookies in future, we will list each one in the table above, explain what it does and ask for your choice before it is used, where consent is required. The date at the top of this page will change when we do.
In practice, this means three things. First, no new storage item will be introduced before it appears in the tables above with its name, purpose, provider and lifespan. Second, where consent is required, the item will stay switched off until you have actively agreed, and declining will not prevent you from reading any article. Third, we will not use browser storage to build profiles of individual readers, to follow you across other websites, or to show advertising based on your reading history.
Changes to this policy are recorded below with their dates. Minor corrections, such as fixing a typo or updating a link, are noted in the same way so that the history is complete.
| Date | Change |
|---|---|
| 1 October 2026 | Added definitions and categories, a status table for every category, the legal basis, third-party and server-log information, browser instructions and a contact procedure with response times. |
| 1 September 2026 | Clarified that both notice buttons store a choice and that they currently result in the same behaviour. |
| 15 June 2026 | First version of the policy published with the website. |
4. Your choices
- Banner buttons. “Accept cookies” and “Essential only” both store your decision. At present they result in the same behaviour because only the preference item is used.
- Browser settings. You can block or delete cookies and site data in your browser settings. Doing this removes your saved choice, so the notice will appear again on your next visit.
- Private browsing. Most browsers clear stored data when you close a private window.
Because your choice is stored only on your own device, you stay in control of it at all times. The points below describe common situations and what to expect in each:
- Changing your mind. To reverse a choice, clear the site data for www.zandrel.id in your browser. The notice then appears again on your next visit and you can press the other button. Menu names differ between browsers and versions, but the option is usually found under privacy or site settings, in a list of stored data by website.
- Withdrawing consent. Deleting the stored item has the same effect as withdrawing a choice. Because no measurement or advertising items exist, withdrawal does not change what data we receive about you, apart from the technical server logs described in section 2.
- Using several devices. The choice is stored per browser and per device. If you read Zandrel on a phone and a laptop, or in two different browsers, you will see the notice once in each.
- Shared computers. On a computer used by other people, such as at a library or an internet cafe, your saved choice may be visible to the next user of the same browser profile. Because the item contains no personal information, the practical consequence is limited to the notice being hidden, but clearing site data when you finish is a good habit.
- Blocked storage. If your browser blocks local storage entirely, the site still works. The notice will simply be shown on every page because your answer cannot be remembered.
Browser signals such as “Do Not Track” and similar privacy controls are respected in effect, since the site does not run tracking tools that would need to be switched off by them.
The steps below are typical for popular browsers. Names of menus change between versions, so search the settings for the words in italics if a path differs:
- Chrome, Edge and Samsung Internet. Open Settings, then Privacy and security, then Cookies and site data and choose to see all site data. Search for zandrel.id and remove the entry.
- Firefox. Open Settings, then Privacy & Security, and under Cookies and Site Data choose Manage Data. Search for zandrel.id and remove the entry.
- Safari on a Mac. Open Settings, then Privacy, and choose Manage Website Data. Search for zandrel.id and remove the entry.
- Safari on an iPhone or iPad. Open the device Settings, go to Safari, then Advanced and Website Data, search for zandrel.id and remove the entry.
5. More information
For how we handle personal data in general, see the privacy policy. Questions about this policy can be sent to [email protected] or through the contact page.
We acknowledge questions about cookies and browser storage within five working days. Requests that concern personal data, such as a question about the server logs or a request for access or deletion, follow the procedure in the privacy policy, and we aim to reply to those within 14 days. If the answer needs more time, for example because we must check with our hosting provider, we will tell you why and give a revised date. Replies are sent in English or, on request, in Bahasa Indonesia.
This policy is reviewed at least once a year and whenever a feature of the site changes that could affect browser storage, such as a new embedded service or a change of hosting provider. The next scheduled review is October 2027. The version in force is always the one on this page, and earlier versions are available on request through the contact details above.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can write again and ask for the matter to be reviewed by the editor-in-chief, who was not involved in the first reply. You also have the right to raise a concern with the authority responsible for personal data protection in Indonesia under Law No. 27 of 2022, or with the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi). Postal correspondence can be sent to Zandrel, Jalan Bunga Raya No. 25, Kebayoran Baru, Jakarta Selatan, DKI Jakarta 12160, Indonesia, and you can reach us by telephone on +62 813 6745 2918 during office hours, Monday to Friday.
